Doting Single Mother from Three Kings Auckland Teresa Platt, found the Ronald McDonald House Auckland family room to be a salvation, in her baby’s fight for life in his early days.
Mother Teresa and sister Milly had an early delivery with newest member Louis Platt, arriving at 35 weeks - 5 weeks premature. They are an example of a modern, unconventional family, as Louis and his older sister Milly were both conceived by IVF with the help of a generous donor.
It was a stressful and traumatic time for them during their short stay at Ronald McDonald House Auckland’s Family Room when Louis stopped breathing after reacting to the virus bronchiolitis. Teresa and Louis went to Starship hospital for treatment and it went very well.
The Ronald McDonald House Family Room accommodated Teresa for two nights and she loved the clean and tidy bed at the end of a day on the ward with Louis. As well as the care of Ronald McDonald House Auckland’s family room within the National Children’s Hospital, Teresa credits Starship “Just the hospital environment and medical care is so good – in PICU Louis had his own care 24/7”. She also commended the value of the outstanding communication between the medical teams and Family Room staff, in keeping her updated constantly, which allowed her to rest more in between.
Teresa stayed at RMHA Family Room for two nights, and besides really appreciating the clean & tidy bed at the end of the day on the ward, she found the lounge area great to relax in. “Milly loved having the toys to play with there and just being able to take family and friends to the family room for a cup of tea and a biscuit when you’re going through a hard time felt really good”.
Louis is tracking very well now, and while still having checkups and health catchups every now and then as happens with many premature babies, he is doing very well; a healthy, happy, bonnie baby-boy!
