“The House is such a great place to escape to, to get away from the hospital and all the news the doctors give you. Just knowing there is a bed and a shower to go to at the end of the day... it’s such a pleasant environment for me and my children.”
The Tebbutt family finds strength in community at the House
In 2006 at 25 weeks pregnant with twins, Erica was told there were complications with one of her babies. Joseph was born with a number of health issues requiring specialist medical services only available at Auckland’s Starship Hospital.
The Tebbutt family have become regular guests at the House since 2009 and despite the disruption caused by having to all travel back and forth between Dargaville and Auckland, they have found comfort in having Ronald McDonald House Auckland as their second home.
Ronald McDonald House has become a way of life for both Joseph and his sister Sophia, who have made many friends here over the years. “We came to the House as a family so it’s been a big part of Sophia’s life as well. She enjoys the House and playing with her newfound friends.”
Often stopping by for up to one week at a time, the House provides more than just accommodation for Erica and her children. “Being surrounded by people going through the same thing as you and who really understand the trauma you are going through is a great support, it’s also nice just to talk… it doesn’t have to be serious all the time.”
Joseph Tebutt raises funds for Ronald McDonald House Auckland
On the 13th October Joseph completed a 5k wheel to help raise money for Ronald McDonald House Auckland. He did an awesome job and completed the 5ks in 1 hour and 15 minutes and managed to raise $1800 for the House – well done Joseph!!!
The funds he raised will help the House continue to support the 2000 families that call RMHA their home each year.
